Why do I need to register?

Registration is necessary to prevent hackers from filling the database with trash. We hate SPAM just as much as you do! Therefore, you must supply your name and a valid email address to which the system immediately sends an email allowing you to validate your registration. Registration also allows you to edit any obituary that you submit. Your email will not be displayed in machine readable fashion - i.e. jim@mckane.com will appear as jim[at]mckane[dot]com. We will NEVER give, sell or transfer your email address to anyone. Your email address will ONLY be used for official ObituaryNetwork business.

I made an error when submitting an obit. How do I edit it?

Login to ObituaryNetwork; do a search to locate the problem obit. Your obits in the search results will have a little pencil in the left column with a red X beside the pencil. Click on the pencil to edit the obit. Click on the red X to delete it.

How do I enter an obit for a woman who was married more than once?

It is recommended you create one obituary for each marriage using the appropriate married surname along with her maiden/birth surname.

How is my email address protected?

Why are advertisements on the site?

The income from your support of our advertisers is a major source of monies necessary to maintain the website. Our only sources of income are the advertisements on the website and donations from our generous users.

What is ObituaryNetwork.org?

Websites come and websites go - the obituaries on them are there today and gone tomorrow! ObituaryNetwork.org is a permanent obituary archive - just as CanadianHeadstones.com is a permanent archive of headstone photos. ObituaryNetwork.org is designed to easily and quickly archive obituaries from any country in the world. The obits are recorded by country, province/state, surname and given names which are fully searchable. You may add an obituary to the database or search for an obituary with ease. You can add as many obits as you wish OR even begin transcribing on a regular basis from any source you have available.

Who owns/controls ObituaryNetwork.org?

ObituaryNetwork.org is owned and operated as a FREE service to researchers and genealogists the world over by CanadianHeadstones.com, a non-profit Canadian corporation. The By-laws of CanadianHeadstones.com states "The corporation shall gather, archive, publish and disseminate genealogical, historical data or other records of interest to family historians, genealogists or other researchers." As a Non-Profit Corporation, it must have at least three directors who are forbidden from receiving any compensation for their services as directors. Our only sources of income to support the costs associated with maintaining the website are the advertisements on the website and donations from our generous users.
